Meditation Tune-Up // Wednesdays, April 6 - 27

Fine-tune your meditation and bring more focus to your life, work, and spiritual practice.

In this 4-class course, we will calibrate our meditation with the user's guide and maintenance manual given to us 1300 years ago by Indian and Tibetan meditation masters. Looking under the hood of our minds, we'll discover where our blockages are and what kinds of tune-up we'll need to get our minds humming along on the path to bliss. Through teachings, group meditation sessions, and discussions about our personal experiences and challenges, we will hone the techniques that allow us to keep our meditation focused and deeply engaging.

This free metaphysical tune-up is good for longtime and new meditators, as well as those who have never meditated before. In other words, EVERYONE is welcome.

Some topics we will explore in detail include: setting up your meditation space, finding the right cushion, selecting a meditation object, getting yourself on the cushion, tools for fighting dullness and agitation, developing the "watcher" mind, and how to generate ngar (intensity).

Dharma Movie Night: The Matrix // Sat, March 19, 7pm

Dear Friends,

Please join us for a screening of a little known screen gem called The Matrix. Starring Keanu Reeves (Little Buddha, 1993) The Matrix popularized the use of a visual effect known as "bullet time," which allows the viewer to explore a moment progressing in slow-motion as the camera appears to orbit around the scene at normal speed. Back in 1999, the movie-viewing audience's collective reaction was, like, whoa. It is now 2011. The Three Jewels Dharma Movie Night is back. Things change. But have no fear, the story still packs a wallop.

Following the viewing, the ineffable meditation teacher, Chelsea Bailey will give a talk on the parallels between Neo's inner journey and transformation and Tibetan buddhist teachings on emptiness.

Hosted by the lovely emanation Monisha Raja, this will be a fun night for all who come. The Three Jewels will provide refreshments - pizza, beverages, popcorn, chocolate....

There is a suggested donation of $7. Give what you can. All are welcome.

Spread the word, bring friends!

Love,
The Three Jewels

In an effort to transform The Three Jewels into more of a Paradise Realm, we have been taking efforts to clean and organize the space to make it a more conducive to our spiritual practice. We want the space to be ever more suitable for yoga, meditation, and spiritual growth.

Our next cleanup day will be Saturday, February 26, from 10am to 4pm. We would be grateful for your help, and we invite you to join us for all or part of the day.

It is said that helping Dharma centers is a very powerful method of generating karma that will help you to achieve profound spiritual goals. We need your help and would be grateful for your assistance. If you would like to donate green cleaning supplies, that would be wonderful.

Thank you--and may we all manifest a Pure Land quickly...

Exchanging Self for Others // March 10, 11, 17, 2011, 7:30 – 9:30pm; March 19 & 20, 2 -4pm

Compassion and Love. Something deep within us knows these mental states are essential to our happiness. By expanding our care to include others, we increase our wisdom, creativity, problem-solving capacity, and sense of satisfaction.

Tibetan Buddhist teachings outline practical instructions to take that idea you call “me” and expand it to those you love, those you feel neutral towards, and even those you dislike. A three-step practice called “Exchanging Self and Others” that will shift your perspective from limitation to loving expansion, creating a whole new YOU.

Everyone is welcome.

Training in the Essence of Concentration: Step-by-Step Instructions for Reaching Stillness

A 5-Week Course on Meditation

Wednesday nights
7 - 9:00pm

Beginning Feb 9, 2011

The ancient books of Tibet say that if a person can see ultimate truth only once, for just 20 minutes in their entire life, then they will soon be able to reach enlightenment, and help stop the pain of countless living beings in this world. And there is only one way to reach this truth: in a deep state of meditation. In this five week course (the first of three), we will share the matchless instructions of Pabongka Rinpoche for reaching this state as taught to us by our root teacher Geshe Michael Roach.

Following Pabongka Rinpoche's Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand and the illustrated Stages of Meditation as our guide, we will follow step-by-step instructions for setting up a meditation space, getting yourself on the cushion, and what to do once you get there.

Please join us.

Taught by students who received direct transmission of these teachings from Geshe Michael Roach at the Breaking Through to Highest Reality retreat, January 2011.
